The experience

Travel from Negombo around 10:00 AM towards the Minneriya area, then enter the national park for an afternoon safari.

Minneriya is famous for its wild Sri Lankan elephants. Depending on the season and daily wildlife movement, you may encounter individual elephants, family groups or larger herds around the reservoir. Water buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys and many species of birds may also be seen.

During the dry season, especially around July–October, large numbers of elephants may gather around the Minneriya reservoir where water and fresh grass are available.
